It is rare when I blog after the radio show , but today is one of those days and I am glad that is the case. I had Mark Dever on the show today. Mark is the Senior Pastor of the Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington D.C. and the Executive Director of the Nine Marks Ministries, along with being an author and conference speaker. What impresses me about Mark is his passion for God that is shown in his devotion to pastoring the local church, particularly in the area of preaching the Word of God. In our day and age where the evangelical church is little more than a reflection of the culture, Mark is a breath of fresh air.

The nine marks that he feels are critical for the church are as follows;

1. Expositional Preaching
2. Biblical Theology
3. Biblical Understanding of the Good News
4. Biblical Understanding of Conversion
5. Biblical Understanding of Evangelism
6. Biblical Understanding of Membership
7. Biblical Church Discipline
8. Promotion of Christian Discipleship and Growth
9. Biblical Understanding of Leadership

I am not going to explain each of those, but I want to encourage you to check out the website which is These are the types of men and this is the type of teaching that the evangelical church is in desperate need of!

blog you later,
pastor tom
