As we get ready for the greatest display of cowardice this country has ever seen, the passing of the non-binding resolution criticizing and not supporting the President's plan for an increase in troops to Iraq, we have these words from our President;

"This may become the first time in the history of the United States Congress that it has voted to send a new commander into battle and then voted to oppose his plan that is necessary to succeed in that battle."

An incredible truth. The Senate unanimously confirmed Lt. Gen David Petraeus last week to take over as the top U.S. commander in Iraq. In those hearings the General stated plainly and unequivocally that to pass such a resolution would accomplish nothing but to encourage our enemies. He could not have been clearer. This resolution will aid the enemy and hurt our forces in the theatre and around the world. Any politician who cared at all about our country would have at that point concluded that this resolution was not the way to make their disagreements with the President known. You would want to believe that the politicans would not want to do anything to harm our troops, or to aid our very real enemy. But that is giving them far too much credit, as today in spite of hearing that from the General they confirmed without opposition, they will pass the resolution, encouraging our enemy and hurting our troops.

This is beyond cowardice and in my mind rises to the level of treason, which is defined as the crime of disloyalty to one's nation or state. If this is not that, then what is? Please do not believe that these pols care about the troops, or our country for that matter. Their actions speak louder than their words. If they cared they would have dropped the idea of this resolution upon hearing the Generals testimony. This is a transparent political move, giving pols the opportunity in 2008 to say they did something or at least said something about a failed war.

This is also a tremendous mis-calculation of the American people. Americans are far smarter and far more patriotic then these politicians want to give them credit for. This will be remembered come 2008 and many of these treasonous politicans will find themselves looking for real jobs after the next election, and that is the way it should be. We are the ones with the power, and we need to excercise that power. It is our patriotic duty to send each one of the men and women who vote for this aiding of the enemy resolution, home, regardless of their is a D or an R after their name. We need to let the brave men and women who serve heroically each day for our freedom know that we truly do support them, and that we will stand with them against their enemies in Congress, just like they stand for us against our enemies around the world.
