Atlanta city councilman C.T. Martin is attempting to add things such as baggy pants and exposed bra straps to its indecency laws. The goal is to punish those who would wear such things or expose such things with a fine. Martin says baggy pants are an "epidemic" in the nation and something needs to be done. While I certainly believe that there ought to be propriety and consideration for others when it comes to appearance, the reality is that this is an example of trying to stop the hemorrhage with a band-aid.

I do not want to make a blanket statement that all who wear baggy pants are ungodly, or in need of Christ, but the reality is that the concern the councilman has, while genuine, is misplaced. It is a great example of how man looks at things and what man does to try to rectify a supposed problem he sees. Gods Word tells us that man looks on the outside, while God looks at the heart. Man sees baggy pants and bra straps and God sees a heart that is either stone and in need of Christ, or regenerate and a daughter or son.

So while city councilmen and others seek to address the issues of public appearance, let us who know the Lord Jesus Christ seek to see people the way that God does!
