MTV and the Associated Press conducted a survey of 1280 young people between the ages of 13-24 with one simple question, "what makes you happy?" You can imagine the answers, particularly if MTV is involved. We would expect partying and sex to be high on the list, if not number one. But the results are stunning, revealing and encouraging, from the wires;

"Spending time with family was the top answer to that open-ended question, according to an extensive survey - more than 100 questions asked of 1,280 people ages 13-24 - conducted by The Associated Press and MTV on the nature of happiness among America's young people."

Spending time with family? I thought that was old fashioned and out of style, not cool. I thought it did not matter if both parents were out of the house the majority of the time. Well it looks like young people have a better understanding of what it is that God designed when He designed a family, than the parents do! God made us relational. The family unit was His plan. We are created to desire to be in loving and caring relationships, particularly with those that He has sovereignly decided to put us with as families. The next time you look at your teenagers, or college age children, do not think for a moment that they would rather be with anyone else than you. While that might be true at certain times, you can be sure that overall they would rather be spending time with their family than anyone else. Go ahead and give family time a try again, bring it out of retirement, you might be surprised at the response from those whom you would least expect it from.

If God designed the family and He did, than it is for our joy and His glory. And best of all, the young people of our nation understand that better than we do!
