Each year Time magazine has a "Person of the Year". It is an honorary award given to someone who has made an impact on the world in the past year. The impact does not necessarily have to be for good, as there have been recipients in the past whom you could make the case were not promoting good for society. As 2007 winds down the magazine prepares itself for another recipient of their award. As it gets closer there is the usual speculation and even campaigning on behalf of others. But NBC Nightly News Anchor Brian Williams takes the cake with his nominee. I give you his words from the wires;

"My nominee for 2007 Person of the Year is a woman--a woman with a history of abuse, a woman who has never run for elective office, someone we all know, someone who makes her presence known on a daily basis in all our lives and, for my money, is better than any male alternative."

At this point we all would be inclined to consider this person for the award as she seems to be the perfect type of person to receive person of the year. The only problem is with the rest of Williams statement, again from the wires;

"That woman is Mother Earth. I think the environment is the compelling issue of our time."

Mother Earth? Does Mr. Williams not see a slight problem with person of the year? Does the "person" part of that cause him any consternation with his nominee? His definition exposes his and many others view of creation as a person. Williams and those sympathetic with his ideology seek to give the planet human standing in the world. Therefore it becomes just as wrong to waste energy as it is to abuse a child. You hear the equality in his statement, which brings to mind the Word of God, where the Apostle Paul in writing to the church at Rome describes a people who worship the creation rather than the Creator. Although they are aware of God they do not worship Him as God but rather worship things like the planet, and animals.

God in His Word is clear that when people do such things, it incites His wrath and gives cause for Him to pour His wrath out on all ungodliness and unrighteousness. Statements like the one given by Williams is reason for God to turn Williams and those like him over to their depravity. I would encourage you to pray for Brian Williams and those who worship the creation rather than the Creator. God is true to His Word, which means their time is limited and their just reward is coming. May God have mercy!
