From time to time a story is found that truly represents the best of humanity. Today we have one such story that is nothing less than a picture of Christ like love. Lorraine Allard is the mother of three children who became pregnant with her fourth, a time that brings great joy to a family. In this case it was a short lived joy, as four months into her pregnancy she found out that she was in the advanced stages of liver cancer. A piece of devastating news that left this mom with some incredible decisions to make. She could either terminate the pregnancy and save herself or delay treatment for the safety of the baby, all but sealing her doom. It is unfathomable to try to understand her dilemma. She has a husband and three children who need her and a baby in the womb who cannot live without her. I am sure there were advocates from both sides of the issue giving her loving advice, but truth be told she was left to make this decision on her own, as no one other than God Himself can decide something of this magnitude.

She decided in favor of the life of her unborn baby. Knowing that she would have to terminate the pregnancy to save herself Lorraine chose to put her own life on the line for the sake of her child. She was willing to lay her life down for the life of her baby, a love that demonstrates Jesus Christ. The Word of God tells us that there is no greater love than the love of a person laying down their life for another. Jesus did this for all who were His. For all that the Father had chosen before the foundation of the world, all that would one day call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, these are the ones for whom Jesus died. Lorraine Allard was willing to do the very same thing for her baby.

A caesarean was scheduled for her child at 26 weeks, but he came on his own and was born November 18th at 25 weeks. Incredibly he survived and is doing remarkably well. Lorraine started her chemotherapy treatments the day after she gave birth. During that time she was able to love and care for her son. On January 18th she left her bed and went to her newborn sons bedside to hold and cuddle him, and then she died. Two months to the day of his birth this heroic mother passed away. In the midst of turmoil and chaos, in times of severe depravity and perversion there stands a mom who like Christ layed her life down for another. A mom who said no to living and yes to a possible death in order that her baby boy would have the opportunity to live. There is no greater love. May we all learn from this example of what it means to live a life for others!
